Music Monday 26: Giorgos Dalaras?
Every Monday (for who knows how long), I’ll be asking the users of the Greece section of Y!A to name their favorite song or songs of a given Greek singer, which will be different each time I post the Music Monday question.
So to continue the series, I give you our next musician, Giorgos Dalaras (Γιώργος Νταλάρας)!!!
So, please give the following information:
1) Which is your favorite Giorgos Dalaras song

and
2) Why is that song your favorite? E.g., because of the lyrics, the sound, it reminds you of a time in your life, etc.
If you don’t like Giorgos Dalaras, then you needn’t post an answer saying “he sucks” or anything along those lines. The purpose of the series isn’t to trash Greek singers, but rather to have fun talking about Greek music, and perhaps broaden and deepen our knowledge at the same time.
Well, I really really like Giorgos Dallaras, his voice has something so special and unique, I don’t know, I just find him great.
My favorite song of Giorgos Dallaras is “Ilie mou se parakalw” (Papadopoulos, Loizos)
I have this on my profile too, this song, the lyrics especially, have a special meaning, for those who suffered during the dictatorship. It’s one of the “fire songs”.
The bouzouki solo in the middle of the song, oh it’s awesome…
“Σα φονιάς τη μαύρη νύχτα, ξαγρυπνώ, πινω δάκρυ, πίνω πρόστυχο καπνο. Με μαχαίρια στην καρδιά μου δε μπορώ να τραγουδήσω και να καρτερώ…”
The pain was enormous, for those who wanted to do something, but they couldn’t, it’s a song for them who couldn’t be heard, and a complain about the young people who died. “Τα πουλιά τα βρίσκει ο χάρος στο φτερό”
Also: “Paraponemena logia” (Eleftheriou, Markopoulos)
I like the melody in this song, and the way Dallaras sings it, I like his voice so much in this one. Perfect!

^^ A song that reminds me of the panigiria we have in the greek islands… Not my fav though, but it’s sth different. Really “laiko”…
I have many other songs of him that I like, but I don’t have much time to post them all
I like his early songs, the ones written by great artists like Manos Loizos and Lefteris Papadopoulos, and not his newest ones…
