Good Jazz standard for a beginner jazz player.?
I’m a rock player, mainly into Zeppelin who has recently fell in love with Miles Davis and jazz all together, I’m listening to Freddie Freeloader as we speak. I can read sheet music but I want something to start with so tabs would be preferable for now . I’m not that much of a beginner, I’m 15 and have been playing for three years, I know most of my major and minor chords up to 13ths so I have some background but I want to expand big time. I have a good knowledge of theory and I know my modes. Now I’m looking for some full tablature or sheet music and free, online and not to complicated so I don’t get frustrated and confused as many do when taking on something too big. Any jazz with a good upbeat exciting swing is cool with me.

If you’re a guitarist I’d suggest something with easy ii V Is in like Autumn Leaves or Satin doll. Look up guitar voicings – they’ll help you to really get your progressions sounding good. The important thing is not to simply play Dm G C but to play it with the correct voice leading. Unfortunately I’m a pianist, and don’t know enough about the guitar to give you the proper ones…
