Help with Guitar pedal purchase?
Hey
Im looking into buying a distortion pedal soon but i am confused over which one to get. Allow me to explain my “rig” (hardly)
10 watt kustom amplifier i got free with one of those starter packs
Ibanez RG370dx
Dimarzio Paf Pro-Bridge and neck
Dimarzio jem Single coil
As you can tell i don’t have a lot of money and the most expensive thing in my “rig” is my guitar.
So i was considering getting an Ibanez tube screamer but am not too sure because i heard they are not great for the music i play e.g Racer X, Malmsteen etc. Does anyone know what pedal would benefit me most?
BTW i do go down to practise rooms now and again so i do have access to REAL amps.
Your advice, opinions, even jokes about my setup are appreciated.

It’s going to have more to do with your style of play than anything else. I’m listening to Racer X right now, and I’m familiar with Yngwie (or however you spell that.)
You need something with a lot of overdrive, and the TS-9 TubeScreamer you’re talking about is not the right pedal. I have a TS-9 and I love it with all my heart and soul, but that’s because I’m a blues-rock fanatic. I have it chained with a Blues Driver and it’s perfect.
What you need is drive and distortion. Boss takes a lot of crap, and I don’t think it’s deserved at all. Aside from my TubeScreamer, all of my pedals are Boss and they sound fantastic. I get compliments on my tone all the time.
Best bet is to find a Guitar Center or other guitar store that will let you try out pedals with one of their guitars. Or bring your own; DiMarzio makes great pickups, although I’m not familiar with your specific model.
Try out individual drive, overdrive and distortion pedals, then try chaining them to combine the tones. Play with the knobs and take your time experimenting with different combinations. Find the models you like, write down the numbers, then go home and find it on eBay for cheap.

P.S. As an aside, a TS-9 might be a great pedal for adding sustain and a gritty edge to your sound, if you so choose. But if you’re looking for a clean, smooth sound, stay away from it. (It breaks my heart to say that, but I’m just being honest.)
